2.2(h): Hazardous substances

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) govern how you should store, use and dispose of hazardous substances. COSH files are used for organizations that have policies in place regarding these regulations by documenting which types or groups may come into contact with them as well as where they’re stored safely at work; what kind of precautions must be taken if storing certain products and what precautions you need to take if using them in a certain capacity or manner.

There are five main hazards that the regulations address: chemicals, dust, asbestos, hazardous biological agents, and physical hazards. In terms of storage, COSH files should include identification information on containers for any hazardous substances, as well as material safety data sheets (MSDS). All information should be kept up-to-date at all times. If you believe that an employee is exposed to any risk to their health or safety as a result of hazardous substances, they must either be supplied with proper equipment for protection or be moved to an area where it is not likely that they’ll come into contact with them.

Storing hazardous substances

When you’re packaging hazardous substances, you must use proper packaging for transport to avoid spills and leaks. It should also be handled carefully so that any potential danger is minimized.

If there are hazardous materials that are small enough to not need special storage conditions or large quantities of chemicals, then they should be stored in cabinets with safety measures like keyed locks. This will reduce the possibility of anything happening to them due to misuse.

Using hazardous substances

Working with hazardous substances can be extremely dangerous. You should always use in accordance to manufacturer’s instructions and your employer’s agreed ways of working, if required for the task at hand you may require personal protective equipment such as gloves which will help limit the exposure that way too but never forget about proper safety when dealing with these materials so before we start to make sure there aren’t any distractions like other people around because accidents happen easier than one would think! Disposing of hazardous substances

Dressing a wound is just one small task in the medical field. Disposing of them correctly can be another matter entirely, but it’s crucial for safety and infection control reasons to do so properly! Different types of waste should always get segregated when they’re being disposed of- clinical versus general wastes (e.g., if you have used dressings from different patients who may not all want their discarded clothing).
