5.1 Facilitate inclusion of team members when agreeing on team objectives

In order for a team to be successful, all of its members need to be on the same page. This means that when agreeing on team objectives, everyone needs to be included in the discussion. Failing to do so can lead to frustration and resentment from team members who feel left out. In order to avoid this, take the time to discuss team objectives with all of your team members. This will help ensure that everyone is on board and working together towards the same goal. Inclusion of everyone’s perspective will help guide the team towards greater success.

Team meetings

It can be difficult to get your team members together on a regular basis. However, when it is time to meet, make sure that everyone is included in the discussion of what needs to get done. Establish ground rules for attendance before you begin so that all attendees will feel obligated to show up. Also, include all team members during any decision-making or problem-solving. This will avoid conflict and promote buy-in of decisions made by the group.

Not only do team meetings help to unify your group, they can also aid in increasing morale. By taking the time to celebrate victories and achievements made by individuals within the team, you will provide opportunities for everyone to feel like their contributions are valued. This will strengthen relationships between members of the team and increase overall success.

Staff supervision

Staff supervision is a great way to allow team members the opportunity for input and participation in their work. Take the time to sit down with each team member one-on-one and discuss objectives they would like to accomplish over the course of their shift. By asking them what they are hoping to achieve, you will make them feel valued and more likely to participate in future planning sessions.

When discussing specific duties, make sure that you give your team members the opportunity to express their opinions. By allowing them to voice their concerns and ideas, you will be able to build a more cohesive team environment as well as increase morale.

The benefits include:

  • Being able to prioritize the point of focus for a group, in order to make sure that all tasks are completed in time and within budget
  • Motivating staff members by involving them in goal setting and planning
  • Strengthening relationships with VIPs who may feel like they’re not always heard when it comes to their area of expertise (eg. patients/customers)
  • Allowing the opportunity for feedback about whether or not their input was helpful to anyone who wasn’t able to attend one of these meetings.

Ensure that all meetings have a clear agenda and schedule so that each team member feels prepared, valued, and included from the start of the meeting. This will help promote engagement from everyone in attendance which will lead to more positive outcomes.
