Assignment Guidelines

This assignment explores how quality, a key principle underpinning contemporary healthcare, can be improved through the application of a change initiative. The assignment aims to enable students to apply, synthesise, and evaluate their knowledge of health policy, leadership, quality, and change and apply it to their area of practice. The assignment is grounded in lectures, discussions and relevant reference materials provided for the module. In addition, it must draw on the theoretical and empirical literature as well as knowledge and insights, derived from professional practice and other modules on the M.Sc. programme as appropriate.

Introduction

The introduction should begin by briefly outlining the importance of policy, leadership, quality and change in your discipline, specifying the precise change that you wish to make. Outline the relevant clinical setting and how you anticipate this change will enhance patient outcomes and service delivery. Conclude by providing an overview of how the assignment is organised. (Approximately 300 words).

Justification of Change proposed

With respect to the change, you are introducing: Firstly, please identify a change that is feasible and relevant in your practice environment. Critically and succinctly discuss the justification for your proposed change with reference to supporting evidence. Identify the health policy/ies that you will draw on in addition to the research evidence that you will use to justify your proposed change. (Approximately 400-500 words)

Application of change theory/Process

Critically discuss in detail how you will plan, lead, implement, and evaluate this change initiative. This discussion is the substantive focus of the paper and should be structured using an appropriate theory or model of change. Draw on both theory and research evidence from the literature on policy, change, leadership and quality improvement to justify the approach you take to leading this change and to support your discussion. (Approximately 1900- 2000 words).

Conclusion:

This section is used to summarise key points addressed in your assignment and draw conclusions from your discussion.
