Unit Aims
This units aims to provide an overview of the range of digital technologies available across different business sectors and environments. Learners will investigate the different areas and develop knowledge and understanding about the importance of digital technologies in today’s world.
Assignment Tasks
Task 1 –Planning the strategy
You must produce a presentation, using presentation software, in which you will detail the key areas the ICT Manger should consider when developing the strategy in relation to recent technological advances and solutions.
The presentation should include:
- explanation of the recent technological advances in computing
- suggestion for appropriate digital solutions to solve a problem
- explanation of the range of ICT related jobs the organisation may require in order to fulfil the strategy requirements now and in the future
- explanation of the transferrable skills that can be learnt from personal computing which could be utilised by the organisation
Task 2 – The digital environment components
The ICT Manager wishes to know more on the range of hardware, software and network options that could be considered as part of the strategy.
Prepare a two-page proposal for the ICT Manager suggesting the types of options that could be considered.
The proposal should include:
- An outline of types of hardware solutions
- An outline of types of software solutions
- A description of types of network solutions
- An assessment of advanced digital solutions that could be introduced
Extension activities:
To gain a merit grade you must also include in your proposal:
- an explanation of the benefits of using a network infrastructure for the charity for ICT management and support
To gain a distinction grade you must also include in your proposal:
- an evaluation on the impact that hardware has on the software being suggested in the proposal.
Task 3 – Using Cloud Technologies
The ICT Manager is considering the use of cloud technologies to replace all physical storage methods currently used across the organisation.
Prepare a two-page report for the ICT Manager, to include the following:
- A description of the types of cloud systems that the charity could use
- An explanation of the benefits of using these cloud systems
- An assessment of the risks that need to be considered for the charity
- An explanation of security measures that may need to be implemented by the charity
