EG5022 Assignment: Georeferencing and Accuracy Assessment of a Quarry 3D Model Using Photogrammetric GCPs
| University | University of East London (UEL) |
| Subject | EG5022: 3D Modelling and Analysis |
Submission instructions
• Written report to be submitted through the relevant Turn-it-in link on Moodle.
• Other files to be submitted via Assignment DropBox on Moodle.
Photogrammetric Processing
Outline
Use the data provided to obtain the variousoutputs requested below.
Requirements – Quarry Dataset:
• Download all the “quarry” files. The files named “quary1.zip”, “quarry2.zip” and
“quarry3.zip” contain portions of one 3D model that represents a quarry.
• Extract the PLY file from each of the zipped folder and import them into CloudCompare
(or any pointcloud software that you choose).
• Download the quarry_GCPs.zip file and extract this zipped folder.
• Using the gcp description images identify and digitize all the GCPs in the model to obtain a text file with the 3D model coordinates of each GCP.
• Split your set of GCPs into two subsets, one for georeferencing and one for
validation. The georeferencing subset will comprise two-thirds of the entire set and the remainder will be your validation subset.
• Conduct georeferencing with the relevant subset. Then digitize the coordinates of the validation points in the georeferenced model. The validation is done by comparing the provided GCP coordinates for the validation subset points with the digitized coordinates of the validation points that were just obtained from the georeferenced model.
• Produce a Survey Report for a client, (max 800-1000 words) that provides the accuracy of the georeferenced model. The report should explain how you arrived at the accuracy conclusion including screenshots where necessary. The submission for this requirement includes quantitative data such as tables and/or text files with digitized coordinates.
All data can be found under Moodle, Assignment & Feedback.
