Aims
The main aim of this module is to understand the fundamentals of network systems and operating systems and how these may impact on creating applications that can make use of the networking facilities provided by the Internet or corporate Intranets, with reference to the ISO/OSI 7 Layer model and other network technologies.
Learning Outcomes

In order to get a pass grade (D- or above) in this module, you must meet these learning outcomes below, that is, you must demonstrate ability to:
LO1: Demonstrate understanding of the fundamental issues of networking and operating system technology.
LO2: Assess requirements and problems that arise when a distributed system is designed and implemented.
LO3: Critically evaluate the issues that networks and operating systems entail, including issues of network security.

- Unseen Examination (3 hours) – 100% weighting
This is an end-of-semester examination.
