Learning Outcomes:
LO1) Describe the personal skills and attributes required to work in the health and social care sector.
LO2) Summarise the key legal, professional and ethical frameworks which those working the health and care sectors are expected to observe
Overview
For the first assessment component, you are required to create a 1500-word presentation, poster or leaflet to meet learning outcomes 1 and 2.
You will need to focus on a specific career within the health and social care sector, some examples that you may wish to consider are as follows:
- Nursing
- Social work
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational therapy
- Youth work
- Counselling
(Note: this is not an exhaustive list, please seek guidance from one of the module tutors if you are interested in an area of practice that has not been mentioned here)
Your work will need to consider the following points:
- The roles and expectations of your chosen area of practice
- Potential communication barriers and strategies for overcoming these
- Relevant legal and professional frameworks applicable to your area of practice
- The importance of critical thinking and reflective practice
We appreciate that some of you may not feel overly comfortable in the use of PowerPoint and other digital tools to create visual resources.
Assignment 2 – Reflection
Due: 12th May 2026
Word Count: 500 (+/- 10%)
Learning Outcomes
LO3) Reflect on the relationship between your degree studies and your employability prospects
Overview
For the second assessment component, you are required to write a 500-word reflective piece, in which you consider the relationship between your studies and your future career and employability prospects.
You will need to make reference to specific topics and issues that you have been studying since the beginning of your course and reflect on the degree to which your skills, attributes and confidence have developed over time. You should then consider how your studies are helping to prepare you for a professional career and identify any areas of development that you will need to work on in future. It will also be important to consider the need for reflective practice in health and social care settings.
As this is a reflection, you will be writing in the first person (I, we, me, my, you, us etc.), as the aim is to consider your own experiences so far and the areas that you will need to focus on and strengthen in order to achieve your future goals.
You will also need to frame your work within a reflective model, some examples of these are as follows:
- Gibb’s reflective cycle
- Rolfe’s reflective model
- Kolb’s experiential learning cycle
We appreciate that reflective writing is very different to writing an essay or report, and that it can be a little daunting writing about yourself and your own experiences. Don’t worry though, you will be fully supported with the assessment over the course of the module and will have time in sessions 3, 6, 9 and 12 to work on your assignments in an IT suite under the supervision of the module team.
