| Assessment 002 | 1,500-word Health Promotion Evaluation Report (40%), due 11 January 2027 |

HSO5004 asks Level 5 health and social care students to plan, produce and present an individual stand at a Health Promotion Event on a health issue of their choice, and then evaluate that event against health promotion theory and public policy. The topic must be justified with local and national evidence, including Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) data.
Learning Outcomes Assessed (Assessment 001)
- LO1: Explore different approaches, settings and levels through which health may be promoted.
- LO2: Identify and assess factors that contribute to individual health and wellbeing.
- LO4: Assess the need for health promotion within the local community and plan an appropriate health promotion intervention.
Assessment 001: Health Promotion Event (60%)
Plan, create and verbally present, as an individual, a printed poster (65% of the grade), a printed leaflet (15%) and a printed questionnaire (20%) on a health promotion issue of your choice. To meet the learning outcomes, consider the target group and the health issues most prominent in local communities, and justify your choice of topic with further research:
- Give background and justification for the chosen topic: why is this an issue? Use national, local and, where relevant, international statistics, including JSNA data.
- Explain how the health issue affects health in the short and long term.
- Identify the health promotion model and approaches you will use to plan the intervention and communicate the message.
All three components are combined into one file and uploaded to Canvas before the deadline. On the event day you present your printed poster and bring printed leaflets for attendees and printed questionnaires to gather feedback for Assessment 002 (compulsory). Students who do not present a printed poster cannot pass Assessment 001.
Poster guidance
- A0 or A1 size, portrait or landscape, designed in any tool (PowerPoint, Publisher, Photoshop, InDesign).
- About 500 words maximum (excluding title, tables, figures and references), using statements and bullet points; clear fonts of at least 28pt.
- Suggested sections: Introduction with statistics justifying the topic (LO4); Impact on health, short and long term, including comorbidities (LO2); Treatment options and interventions and their effectiveness (LO1, LO4); Local support services (LO1, LO4); References in UoB Harvard style.
Assessment 002: Health Promotion Evaluation Report (40%, 1,500 words)
Individually submit a 1,500-word evaluation that further justifies your chosen topic and target population and discusses at least one health promotion theory and at least one current public policy directly related to interventions on the chosen health issue. Evaluate your contribution to the event and whether the theory and policy help (or do not help) address the issue, applying a range of health promotion evaluation approaches. Do not use a reflective model. Conclude on whether your event succeeded in delivering its main health promotion message.
- Maintain strict confidentiality throughout.
- Use Harvard referencing with a full list headed “References”: 10 to 15 sources, including at least two refereed journal articles and four academic books.
- Include a declaration of any software tools used, including generative AI.
Marking Criteria (summary)
First class work (70%+) shows wider research across differing academic viewpoints, detailed discussion of theories, policies and strategies, well-developed reasoned arguments, an excellently structured and articulate presentation with clear visual aids, and accurate referencing of a high number of sources. Lower bands reflect less depth, fewer sources and weaker structure.
Need help with HSO5004?
The poster carries 65% of the HSO5004 event grade, so most of your planning should go into it: a local health issue justified with JSNA and national data, a clear section on short and long-term health impact, the interventions and their evidence, and the local support services, all with UoB Harvard citations and no more than about 500 words. Build the leaflet and questionnaire around the same message, and design the questionnaire so it gives you real feedback for the 1,500-word evaluation, where you must link one health promotion theory and one public policy to your topic without using a reflective model. Our health and social care assignment help can guide your event plan, and our evaluation report writing help supports Assessment 002.
