Instructions
Students will create a technical nutrient fact sheet for ONE of the following nutrients – vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12 C, D, E, calcium, chromium, copper, magnesium, selenium, or zinc. The assignment is written in two parts:
PART A (1000 words)
- Describe the key functions of the nutrient.
- Identify its main dietary sources and any factors that may affect its availability and bioavailability.
- Discuss the different recommended levels in terms of NRVs, RNIs, tolerable upper levels, and toxicity levels.
- Describe and explain signs/symptoms of deficiency, insufficiency, and toxicity, identifying any prevalence data and at-risk groups.
- Describe and explain any interactions with drugs or other nutrients.
PART B (1000 words)
- Discuss THREE key pieces of quality evidence focusing on therapeutic uses of the nutrient (i.e. to support a specific function or condition), critically evaluating the evidence, and reaching an overall conclusion.
- Explain how you might use the nutrient as a nutritional therapist with clients in clinic, including dosages (clinical application).

It can contain appropriate, tables, diagrams and charts to illustrate, but not replace, the substance of the text.
