Unit Aims
The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the fundamental and important skills required to communicate in a business environment. Learners will develop an awareness of different forms of communication – non-verbal, verbal, written and IT. This will enable learners to effectively communicate different messages by selecting the most efficient form of communication based on the situation and the message to be sent.

- lists different aspects of verbal communication,
- lists different aspects of non-verbal communication and
- explains how each of these aspects are used effectively in different business situations.
b. Write a 200 word essay which explains why verbal and non-verbal communication is important for a business.
Task 3 of 4 – Assessment Criteria 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 4.3. are assessed in this task
Instructions
a. Produce a list of at least four different types of written communication used in a business.
b. Write a 300 word essay which explains why written communication is important in business.
c. Create a portfolio of evidence containing different types of written communication which you produce during your course using appropriate IT hardware and software.
As a minimum you must include the following;
- a report
- an essay
- a print out of an email
- a paper copy of a presentation
- a paper copy of an excel spreadsheet.
Task 4 of 4 – Assessment Criteria 4.1 and 4.2 are assessed in this task Instructions
