Assignment Summary
You will complete two tasks for this assessment: an annotated bibliography and a short essay. The annotated bibliography will help you organise your ideas, structure your argument, and identify key sources. You will then write a 1,500-word essay based on the plan, demonstrating your research, critical thinking, and academic writing skills.
Assignment Instructions
For this assignment you will answer oneof the two questions below and produce an annotated bibliography and a short essay based on the chosen question.
“To what extent is Artificial Intelligence positive or negative for university education?”
“To what extent is Artificial Intelligence positive or negative for the future of work?”
Task A – Annotated bibliography (500 words) (LO 1, 2)
Write an annotated bibliography to outline and evaluate five sources that you will refer to in your essay (Task B). An annotated bibliography consists of two parts:
1. A full reference of each source, and
2. A short paragraph after each reference that:
- Describes the contents of the source
- Evaluates the author’s perspective (i.e. to what extent you agree with source)
- Suggests how you will use the source in your essay
Three of the sources in your annotated bibliography must be taken from the mandatory source pack available on the module iLearn page.
You may choose the remaining two sources to complete your annotated bibliography. These sources must relate to the content of your essay (Task B).

Task B – Essay (1500 words) (LO 1, 2, 3, 4)
To successfully complete this assignment, you must:
1. Write your essay according to the structure and academic writing skills you have developed throughout the module. You should:
- Provide an introduction
- Provide a main body that:
- Uses the ‘PEEL’ method (Point, Evidence, Explain, Link) to develop your main body paragraphs
- Interprets and evaluates any numerical data to support your argument
- Paraphrases and summarises information from sources o Uses evidence from the three mandatory sources in the assignment source pack and an additional two sources you have found.
- Provide a conclusion
