This first-year criminology assessment asks students to picture themselves in a criminal justice career once they graduate, such as a probation officer, police officer or youth justice worker, and to reflect on that journey through theory, motivation and professional skills.
Task Summary
Choose a role within a Criminal Justice Agency and imagine yourself in that position once you have completed your studies. To celebrate your achievement, reflect upon your journey by sharing the following information:
- What inspired you to study criminology?
- What is your favourite criminological theory, and why?
- How do you apply your theoretical knowledge to your professional role?
- What skills do you need to have and develop to be successful in your role?
Assignment Instructions
- Both formats carry equal weighting and are marked on how you answer the question, the sources used, and the quality of the presentation of the work.
- Mini report: imagine the work will be submitted to your boss for their consideration; it must be of the highest quality.
- Presentation: imagine it will be presented to people within your organisation; guidance on narrated PowerPoint videos is given on iLearn and in sessions, and a transcript must be created and submitted.
- Either format must be easy to understand, reflective and informative, with links to theory, and backed up with citations and references.
- Produce either a 2,000-word mini report or an 8–12 minute narrated video presentation.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate academic skills appropriate for studying in a higher education setting.
- Identify personal qualities and transferable skills necessary for employability and lifelong learning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of criminological theory.
- Identify, retrieve, process, and evaluate information from a variety of sources.
- Identify and use appropriate digital applications for given purposes and tasks (GA 1 Digitally literate).
Work is graded against a marking matrix available on the submission portal.
Need help with your CRI4003 reflection?
CRI4003 sounds personal, but it is still marked on theory and sources. If you choose probation, for example, link your favourite theory to the role in practice: desistance theory and the Good Lives Model fit supervision work, while labelling or strain theory can explain why some people on probation struggle to move on. Then map the skills you need, such as motivational interviewing, risk assessment and report writing, to real Probation Service expectations, and keep the reflective voice clear. Our sociology and criminology assignment help can guide structure, theory choice and Harvard referencing.
