We recommend you use this guide & checklist to prepare your work for submission. You can use it to review the all the requirements for your Product Management individual portfolio. You will need to ensure you are able to tick ALL the boxes prior to your submission date. Be aware that if you fail to complete these minimum requirements, your work could result in you not passing the unit.

Students often lose marks by forgetting some of the more straightforward elements of their assignments.
We recommend that you “tick off” each of the points below as you prepare your work for submission.

Academic misconduct and generative AI

Disclosing the use of AI-generated content on assessments is an act of good practice. However, not all assignments allow you to use AI generated content, and you should check with your Unit Leader.
If using generative AI tools, you should be aware of whether your use of the tool(s) may constitute academic misconduct via plagiarism.
When you can use generative AI in the developmental process of your work, acknowledging its use and keeping a learning log is required. See Student Guide to generative AI ‘Keep track of how you use generative AI’ section for more details on how to acknowledge your use of AI-generated content in your work. The learning log should be included as part of the appendix, and AI-generated content referenced according to Harvard Referencing.
You may not use AI to generate your work unaltered that you submit for assessment as if it was your own work. The only exception to this, is where the course content/assessment brief permits the use of AI generated work. If you have questions, please speak to your Unit Leader.

1.A. Market Analysis (approx. 400 words)
Analyse the market in which the brand operates and the key competitors of the brand. Your analysis should include the following figures and a discussion of analysis that summarises your findings, referencing the figures when applicable:
• Brand Positioning Map – circle your proposed brand, positioned against their key competitors
• Comparative Shops – identify the brands’ key competitor. Complete 2 Comparative Shops that analyses the product ranges: 1 for the brand and 1 for the key competitor. (See template on Moodle). The figures should go into the appendix and a summary of findings included in Section 1a Market Analysis.
• SWOT Analyses – identify the brands’ key competitor. Complete 2 SWOTs’ that analyse the current product ranges: 1 for the brand and 1 for the key competitor. (See template on Moodle).

1.B. Consumer Analysis (approx. 200 words)
Analyse the consumer that the brand targets. You are encouraged to use primary research to support this section, for example consumer observations, interviews or survey findings can be included but are not mandatory. Your analysis should include the following figures and a discussion of analysis that summarises your findings, referencing the below figures when applicable:
• Consumer Profile & Pen Portrait – create for your brand using your market, brand and competitor research. If the new product range will target a new consumer vs. the brands’ current consumer; present both consumers and explain the reasons for targeting a new consumer as well. This should explain who they are and include the following: typology (e.g., The Predictors) generational group (e.g., Generation Z) demographics (e.g. age, race, ethnicity, gender, marital status, income, socio economic group, education, and employment) buying motives (e.g., Maslow Hierarchy of Needs)
• Adoption of Innovation and Trend – plot your target consumer on the “Everett Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation (1971)” curve to illustrate and analyse what type of consumer they are in relation to trend adoption (Innovator, Early Adopter, Early Majority, Late Majority or Laggard).

1.C. Spring 2026 Trend Analysis (approx. 300 words)
Create a detailed seasonal trend analysis suitable for the targeted market (e.g. if the brand is Zara, the market would be young womenswear). Use WGSN, EDITED, and LS:N Global or any other fashion forecasting sources for research. Inspiration should come from: catwalk collections, style influencers, street style photography, seasonal product trend themes and macro trends.
The seasonal trend analysis needs to visual and creative but must also be supported with your written analysis on explaining what the visuals mean.
The seasonal trend analysis needs to be presented through 4 digital mood boards that outline the Spring 2026 emerging trends for:
• Colour
• Fabric
• Prints & graphics
• Key items (e.g., shacket, wide-leg trousers) & Trims/Details (e.g., metal hardware, contrast stitching).

Section 2: Spring 2026 Range Planning

2.A. Trend Concept Board (approx. 300 words)
Create a final mood board for your ‘more’ Sustainable Product Range that develops the seasonal trend analysis into a specific trend story that reflects the brand’s identity and signature style, as well as being suitable and desirable for the target consumer.
The Trend Concept Board must include:
• A Collection Name
• Colour Palette
• Fabric Choices
• Prints & graphics (if applicable)
• Key items & Trims/Details that will be incorporated into the product range.
• The Trend Translation needs to visual and creative but must also be supported with your written analysis on why the trends are relevant to your brand, market, and consumer.

2.B. Balanced Product Range (approx. 300 words)
Use your research and analysis from Section 1 to explain how your range is balanced, referencing the below figures when applicable
• By “balanced product range” we mean different product types, in a variety of complementary colours and fabrics, which could sit together as a collection, in store and online.
• Range Pyramid – visually present the sustainable product range by category on the pyramid, to illustrate the product and pricing attributes and product category balance. (See template on Moodle).
• Pricing Architecture – visually show the selling price (RRP (Recommended Retail Price)) structure by product category. (See template on Moodle).

Section 3: Range Development

• Product Range Plan – Present a range plan that lists all the products from your sustainable product range (See template on Moodle).
• Merchandising Planning – List all the products from your sustainable product range, outlining order quantities and size ratios. Include Cost Value and Sales Value targets at style level to meet the provided total for your chosen type of brand. (See template on Moodle)
• Indicate how you will measure success by defining intake margin and cash sales/costs to deliver a profitable collection.

Section 4: Sourcing Strategy (approx. 300 words)

• Sustainability & Country of Origin – Research and present a summary of your brands’ current sourcing strategy. Explain how the Sustainable Product Range supports a sustainable sourcing strategy and what SDGs it links to. Discuss the Country of Origins and reasons for selecting the chosen countries for the manufacture of the Sustainable Product Range.

Section 5: Range Visualisation: Look Book

Visually illustrate your Sustainable Product Range in 5-10 outfits in a simple Look Book using downloadable CADs from WGSN.
The only written text required in the Look Book is (not included in the word count):
• Front Cover (e.g. Product Range Title, Brand)
• Looks labelled (e.g. ‘Look 1’)
• Product descriptions
• Product Selling Prices
• Back Cover (Brand information e.g., head office address)
• The outfits need to be a visual output of your research and decisions that have been presented in Section 1-4.

Things to consider when completing this part:

☐ Have you thoroughly analysed your brand and their main competitor annual reports and websites to gather research on the brands and their strategies? Look for business strategy and sustainability information.
☐ Have you undertaken (and continue to undertake) a significant variety of secondary research (i.e., reading list as per UHB including, academic journals, business sources and websites), to provide market research on your brand?
☐ Are the sources you have used reliable? Google, Chat GPT and Wikipedia are not reliable sources.

☐ When you are looking at the SS25 ranges for your research it should be mostly full price product, however, not to fully ignore promotional and markdown product since the brand could have acted due to slow/poor sellers.

iii. SWOT Analyses
☐ Ensure your SWOT is within approx. 200-word limit and you have prioritised the points that are most important and put the most important points at the top (so you have 200 words for everything else in this Market Analysis section).
☐ Acknowledge that you can put a ‘more-detailed’ SWOT in your appendix but ensure you refer to it within Part 1 of the portfolio.
☐ It is recommended you completed a detailed SWOT of your brand’s main competitor’s Spring Summer 2024 product range as well. This will help you analyse your brand in relation to your competition i.e., better than or worse than your competition. Key points could be referenced within your brand’s SWOT and then the detailed competitor’s SWOT added to your appendix and referenced within the Part 2a.
