University University of Wolverhampton (UOW)
Subject 3GK013: Project-based Learning

The poster

You will design a poster that gives key information about your project idea and will be used as a visual aid in your presentation.  Posters are used a lot in the academic world to quickly and easily share the results of research, in an audience-friendly way.

The poster should be submitted to Canvas at least one day before you give your presentation.

Content of your poster

Your posters should include the following sections:

  • A title for your project idea
  • An explanation of the problem your project aims to solve (link this to the SDGs)
  • A description of your project idea
  • The strengths of your project idea
  • A conclusion
  • References (not included in the word count)

Poster design

  • Design your poster on ONE slide of a PowerPoint
  • It should be colorful and attractive
  • Use carefully-chosen images and pictures

You can use PowerPoint to design your poster and templates are available on Canvas for you to use.  On Canvas, there are also examples of past students’ posters for you to review – please have a look at these to give you an idea of what we are asking you to create.

The presentation

The presentation will be given in class in week 12 of the module. In it, you will pitch your project idea to the other groups in your class – in other words, you will persuade the audience that your project idea is viable and would be effective.

Include the following in your presentation:

  • A brief introduction, where you introduce yourselves and your presentation.
  • An explanation of the community you aim to help and the problem facing the community. Link this to the relevant SDG.
  • A description of your project idea – give specific detail about what is involved in your project idea.
  • The strengths of your project idea – be persuasive (but realistic) about the positive impact of your idea.
  • A brief conclusion that sums up your project idea.
  • References (not included in the word count)

Your teacher will question you on potential weaknesses of your project idea, so when you are preparing your presentation, think carefully about what these weaknesses might be so that you can answer the questions with confidence.

If you are working on your project in a group: Each group member will submit the same poster.  All group members will participate in the presentation.  Each group member will receive the same overall grade.  You will have 5 minutes per group member to present.
